Galene Horizon Ring by Hugo Cahill

Octagonal step cut tanzanite, 15.86 carats; 282 sapphires in four blue tones, 5.44 carats; 299 brilliant cut diamonds, 2.30 carats; rhodium plated gold; adjustable band FR 57–54.

This ring features a 15.86-carat tanzanite, a shifting violet-blue, surrounded by 282 sapphires in varying shades of blue and a rim of diamonds, set in yellow and grey gold. There's no conventional band — the setting is twisted gold, carved from a single block of metal.

Its name comes from Galene, the sea nymph who calms the waves in Greek mythology: the ring evokes the surface of a still sea, where every reflection is different. Each sapphire was placed by hand so the whole would look natural rather than arranged. A hidden detail: under ultraviolet light, a small house-shaped mark appears among the stones.
